Have a trip planned to Hakone/Izu Peninsula…? Then stop by Sharehouse Yugawara!
Many of the people who come to The Other House also spend a night or 2 at this place!
“Sharehouse Yugawara” is a accommodation located in Yugawara right in between the Hakone and Atami. The area is historically quite famous for its onsen(hot springs).
Sharehouse w/ farm experience, run by “100 samurai’s”
Sharehouse Yugawara is run by “Masato-san” who comes up with creative ideas in a unconventional manner. His full name roughly translates to “The righteous 100 samurai’s”. He might have been slashing through enemy armies in his past life, but in this incarnation, he runs a sharehouse (and a guesthouse) filled with diversity and international feel.
Now in it’s fourth year of operation, the place looks a less chaotic and more guesthouse-like but there’s always some fun to be enjoyed at the place. For those interested in farm work and DIY repair their’s always volunteer farm work you can join.
You can’t tell who are the guests and who are the staff
The house is occasionally packed with people from all around the world. Interesting thing about this accommodation is that you do not really know who are the guests and who are the staff members of the house. In the past, there have been volunteers, guests-turned-into- volunteers, and guests-turned-into-volunteers also come back to this place after finding work in Japan. It’s a total mix of everything, global (con) fusion, magic in the making.
The most recent addition to the house is the goat.
Local media proves the place is reliable and trustworthy
Have I interested you enough? Or are you speculative of the whole place? You might think its all fugazi at the end of the day. However, the house has been introduced by the local town paper as a place for foreigners to volunteer, and they see it as a possible new type of gateway for foreigners to experience Japan. If you have time on your hands or a WH visa, this might be a place for you.
